Learn about the advantages and benefits of inter-generational co-housing with GAIL SCHECHTER, Executive Dir., H.O.M.E. H.O.M.E. has long been working to provide housing for seniors and lowincome person. She has the experience of operating several intergenerational housing buildings. The first American intergenerational cohousing projects were built in 1991. Currently, there are more than 100 of these communities in the country, about 20 more are under construction, and there are another 120 to 150 or so in the planning stage. The trend is catching on. Before we look in detail at senior cohousing — what it is and what it can be — it is good to know something about what intergenerational cohousing communities are.
